a shell to the pearl

Balmain RTW F/W 2012
Now, it goes without saying that since the military trend is back, it's perfectly sensible to desire a pearl embellished jacket right? This has transcended beyond the creation of a shell and tantamount to being dusted within the stars. The craftsmanship on the jacket is beyond belief and the golden belt looks as though it could hold the very seams of the world from falling apart. And there's velvet, the pinnacle texture for winter. Completely worth either the investment piece or to hang in a museum, whichever gets there first.

Comme des Garçons Timeslip

With the 90s making a comeback, it's only fitting that we step into our own time machine as well. Thrift Store chic is a very real look that is thankfully gentle on the budget. And it's fashion, not tacky so hah! My taste is definitely not deteriorating and easily swayed by the growing number on the price tag. I'm all too excited for the arrival of autumn/winter and I will get my hands on every ridiculously ugly jumper perceivable to mankind.

This is from the Comme des Garçons fall 1996 line and impressively, the style holds up. There's no such thing as mixing too many contrasting textures and colours. The traffic will just learn to adapt. I like that the silhouette is preserved from being an amorphous mass by contrasting the oversized fit with trim bottoms, doing so accentuates the space that you brazenly claim in the world.

spring spring

If you lived in Sydney, you would understand that spring doesn't exist. It's a flat half year of summer. Give or take a few vital degrees, if I'm going to be pedantic about it. It's all about the aesthetic. This time, I followed the rubric because what isn't as revolutionary as floral in spring? Alright, I know, it's summer... spring... summer... close enough, it's hot enough.

So here's a consequence of thrifting. Eventually, your taste will deteriorate and you will begin thinking that the most tackiest of things are deemed couture. I pulled out this dress from the rack, took in its brazen green that had the audacity to form diagonal stripes against a pink floral backdrop and sincerely considered my life choices and challenged the perception my friend had of me. We're still friends, although I suspect that is hanging on by a slim thread. I raised an eyebrow at it as I carried about the store which immediately lowered once I saw it on before the mirror. Eh... a good fashion is a matter of perspective, and I like to think its bold existence is how I should live my life.

And green and pink are complementary colours, which is why it works! I'm a shame to my kind.

  1. banila co. VV Bouncing Cushion - I'm not quite in love with the bb & cc cushions that I got from my trip in Seoul, as they're notorious for being concerned about whitening.. perhaps it's a matter of application ...

Ghostbusters x Candy Stripper

Today's post can be adequately summed up in three simple words. Oh. My. God.

Who would've thought that Ghostbusters would've gotten a reboot, with an all female team no less. I'm going to make a shameful admission now. ... I haven't actually seen it yet. So how on earth does it evoke such intense feelings within me? Well you see, when the original Ghostbusters was a hit, it virtually nurtured my elder cousin and for whatever reason, my aunt and mother found that quite endearing and regaled me tales of how big a fan he was of them, and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man plush that he had had turned black from its initial white due to how often he carried it around with him... to imagine my usual colder than steel cousin like that painted an unusual image.

But the main reason why I haven't watched the reboot is because I'm incredibly shit with movies and I'll get to it ... eventually. Perhaps this collection, from one of my most favourite Japanese brands ever, Candy Stripper, will give me the push and incentive that I need.

I never thought I would like the silhouette of oversized jumpers and maxi skirts over a more polished look but here we are.

I said the same thing years ago about fishnet stockings but here we are once more.

Unquestionably, this is my favourite look. I've been spellbound by palazzo trousers lately, bonus points if it has a slit up the leg but how it sits highwaisted with a cropped turtleneck is just an indescribably pretty pairing.

I'm speechless really... and currently downloading the Ghostbusters film so that I can set the world back on its axis.

I swear that my head isn't swirling in a neverending winter, the unbearable heat ruins that fantasy an infinite times over within the hour. I know, this says otherwise doesn't it? As much as I do firmly uphold the adage of quality over quantity, Australia's ridiculous up-prices considerably test that resolve resulting in me being extremely reluctant in forking over the gold only to be riddled with disappointment as its worth lie in its name alone. Capitalism, what else is new?

Elf Cosmetics may not be entirely as affordable as it is here in contrast to the US, but in proportion, it will make a worthwhile dupe to high end makeup until I master its application.

  1.  Assorted e.l.f. cosmetics - I really look forward to the Laguna blush and bronzer duo as it's universally agreed to act as a fantastic dupe for Nars' Orgasm (which is insanely pretty, goddamn. I'm buying into the masses now, sigh.). And you can never have too may shades of blush and highlighter to experiment with!
  2. Calvin Klein Lipsticks - For $3 each it's far more affordable than even Revlon lipsticks here which can run for above $15 for a single one.
  3. Emerald Satin Shirt - A trend I didn't think I'd buy into was wearing pyjamas as outerwear. I take it back, I'm going straight from my bed to the streets from now on. It also didn't hurt that J-Hope from BTS was rocking a similar shirt in one of their Blood, Sweat and Tears performances only I'm sure that at $2, it's less than 99% its cost. Additionally, it has incredible structure and despite it being slightly lengthy, it doesn't need to be tucked in and falls majestically.
  4. Gemstome Shell Clutch - Some call this tacky, others, a masterpiece. It's a tacky masterpiece and I adore it. It also is a refreshing change from majority of my bags since I have a weird fixation on satchel bags or bags in the shape of food items, because I'm quirky ironic like that. The texture is also reptilian as well with a white piping to add layered interest. Unfortunately, it will be the thing to break my tendency of overloading as realistically, it can only hold my phone and a pack of tissues. At least my back would be thankful.
Why has no one told me that flatlays were so fun to construct?? Follow me on Instagram, to view more flatlay building.

summer denial

Summer does not continue into February. As if the pairing of black and gold together haven't revealed the extent of how high I've got my head up my ass. Oh and leather. Don't forget leather... and dark lipstick and of course any arm accessory ... ever. Now shouldn't be the time that I just bought a calf-length black trench coat right? Hahaha.. at least we'll be in autumn's embrace soon.

  1. BCBG Max Azria Black Over the Knee Wedge Boots - to date, this remains my star find at any thrift shop ever. Unfortunately its soaring height keeps me from reaching the stars myself.
  2. MAC Lipstick in Media - what do you mean you can't have dark lips in summer?
  3. Bobbi Brown Long Wear Gel Eyeliner in Black Ink
  4. Chanel necklace - authenticity is a bit questionable but undeniably pretty with guaranteed sophistication.
  5. Lush Angels on Bare Skin Cleanser - this has been serving me relatively well on days when a full skincare routine is as arduous as scaling a high mountain.
  6. Lush Ocean Salt Scrub - in a pretty ombre blue and extremely effective
  7. Pleated Leather Skirt - I have been on the hunt for once since what feels like the beginning of time. It's the perfect length too, not too short where it shies against the wind and classically demure.

I know, there's less than a month left of summer. No, I do not miss what I don't have. I will cry about wanting the cold and never miss the heat.
