Dessert Tasting At the Blackflower Patisserie, Haymarket

There was one thing that was the perfect pick me up... and what was that? Why a dessert tasting at the fairly new Blackflower Patisserie, thats what.

I had discovered its presence roughly about a few weeks ago and am I ever relieved to have stumbled upon such a place? Hell . Freaking. Yes. This place is probably so far, the closest to Adriano Zumbo's Patisserie in terms of complex layered desserts and textures. Oh and a quick warning, don't be surprised by the rather adventurous names, it seems to be more quirky and tongue-in-cheek than anything else.. unless if actually does provoke what its namesake is then errr . I can't remember the exact components of each dish but I do recall their risque names haha. I was alerted to this free dessert tasting through their Instagram and I immediately texted them to secure a place as well as several of my friends post haste demanding whether or not they were free so we could hit it up. The reason behind it was because they were testing desserts for their dine-in menu. I went with two other friends and once we were there, we were told we could order a free dessert each. The two of them allowed me full control of the menu as they were assured with the fact that I always pick good things .. HAHAHA errrr . If memory proves to be correct, there were 7 - 8 items on the menu , other than the ones we chose , there were a few that had similar elements, we avoided those and those that contained espresso and went for the more exotic sounding ones.. and we did not regret our decision at all.

Bosom Buddy
The Bosom Buddy which consisted of a raspberry mousse, vanilla bean ice cream, pomegranate seeds, passionfruit star bursts and blueberry bites. They brought out this dish first and .. it was delicious. I loved the wide range of contrasting textures and flavours it provided. The tartness of the passionfruit and raspberry mousse was perfectly offset with the vanilla ice cream. My only complaint was that it should've been brought out last instead, the light vibrant notes would have dispelled any heaviness from the following desserts.

The Climax, cushion foam pavlova melt over passionfruit, white chocolate mousse, strawberries and tropical fruit. Unfortunately, we had ordered this originally for the white chocolate as my best friend is a white chocolate fiend, however upon receiving the dish, they had informed us that since they had run out of the white chocolate, they were forced to improvise with pavlova and I'm assuming a lightly torched blueberry meringue. It was good only except that it was rather .. mundane and didn't deliver anything unusual. Probably because we were expecting white chocolate haha .

Mind Rape
The Mind Rape was a chocolate fondant with vanilla bean ice cream, cylindrical tuile, chocolate ganache and mousse, crumble and strawberries. I'll just let that photo above do all the talking. That fondant ... with that ooey gooey centre. So rich and heavenlyyyy, we were reduced to unintelligible mumbling as soon that luxurious nectar of chocolate touched our tongues .. Of course we had to do the obligatory food porn shot haha .. it took about 10 photos before I got it perfect all the while muttering , sexy , sexy , under my breath LOL. One thing about it was that they could've provided something more, other than strawberries to help prevent the richness of the chocolate from overcoming you entirely.. not that its a bad thing of course. But we were left feeling just the slightest bit heavy after this.. and it certainly did live up to its name haha.

If the rest of the desserts were of this calibre, they definitely have an extremely promising dine in menu. I hope this means that they will be opening later so we could come here after dinner rather than the reverse. Can not wait to come back and try the other desserts, I'm pretty sure my friends would be willing to as well since several expressed their angst at missing a chance at free dessert due to busy schedules LOL.

Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Macarons

Harry: "Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans?"
Ron: "They mean every flavor! There's chocolate and peppermint, and there's also spinach, liver, and tripe. George sweared he got a boogie flavored one once."

Haha. Anyone else have fond memories of Harry Potter ? No? Just me? Okay. For some reason that quote stuck, I remember being quite fascinated.. granted of course, as a children I was incredibly unadventurous concerning food, how ironic now. I stumbled upon the concept more as an attempt to conceal a mistake but nonetheless, it appeared to work out rather well. I made the macarons for my sister's birthday, knowing that she has a huge penchant for them. I've made macarons before but the appeal solely lies in the abundance of flavours and the kaleidoscope of colours that it provides.. it's awfully mundane to make a batch of just one flavour and colour . I read that the Italian method was more reliable concerning multicoloured macarons .. I just didnt anticipate how finicky it was however. In the end, I decided to forgo the multitude of colours and just stick to something a lot more simpler. That is, just stick to my original plan and have a multitude of flavours from one frosting batch but keep the colour the same.
It all worked out well as now it had a more mysterious element introduced... THERES A CHANCE YOU COULD GET A BAD FLAVOUR ! .. Not haha . This time around I made sure it was .. mostly perfect haha , no unusual flavours .. or defected ones ... but definitely in the near future ;) . The flavours here were just, vanilla latte, green tea, milo , golden gaytime, nutella, vanilla, peanut butter&jelly, malted milkshake ... so... anyone dare try their luck ? Next time .. there shall be toothpaste... maybe when I have more time to experiment ... haha .

Present were also red velvet cupcakes and I must say , ladies and gentleman, please feast your eyes on this remarkable and most importantly, unedited beauty. The frosting speaks for itself doesnt it? I also made scones .. somewhat mundane after those gems huh ? Hahaha . Unfortunately, I had t leave for work soon after so I didnt get to see whether or not my sister and her friends enjoyed the desserts... one can solely hope right ?

Perhaps I should do more recipes inspired by things that I have read in my favourite books ;)

Picnic Hysteria

And now to dredge up the significance behind this photo before anyone can dwell on my unintentional short hiatus. With uni , theres really no time to enjoy your life , if anything, the opposite effect is achieved and you end up hating it. Especially if it involves four assignments due in two days. In any case, that's over now and there is just the slightest time left to relax. But that's the main reason to which I've been so withdrawn, hardly talking to any of my friends.
I have a habit of making a cake of epic proportions puncturing a friend's birthday or a special event (If you wish to see them, I direct you to my Instagram on the right hand side ;] ). To my absolute horror, I realised that it was a friend's birthday .. actually I wished him Happy Birthday a day before the actual date.. so to make it up to him we decided to do an awkward one on one picnic at the nearby park. Awkward as we didnt know each other that well . It's probably a testament to what kind of friends I made that are guys but I'm not used to anyone being too kind for me,  I always suspect that they have an ulterior motive. Anyway, so right up to the end, we were still debating whether or not to do it ... fast forward, no we did not , even though I had finished the picnic for one. Despite the fact that I had 2 hours to cook, battle the clock and the lack of things left in my fridge, although .. I'm surprised at what I did manage to conjure up. Let us never mention the failed creme brulees and I consider this a success .. even if we never went through with it. A quick summary of what I made , lightened up 'cheesecake', crustless quiche, caramel popcorn, corn and salted, malted chocolate chip cookies.

I hope these lacklustre recipes make up for the hiatus. If not then I sincerely apologise haha . There was a slight blogworthy event next week but I didnt want to leave too much of a gap between entries. In any case, HAPPY BIRTHDAY KEVIN ! I hope you had a great day today ! And I feel extremely horrid that I was too busy to make anything special :X

Lightened Up Crustless Quiche for One

The perfect way to clear your fridge. Cheese is the seal that holds everything together. It's one of those fail-safe ingredients that can lift up the entire dish no matter how many times you attempt to screw it up. This is so easy to make it seems almost silly to provide a recipe especially since you can modify it to the ingredients you have on hand.

1 egg
2 tbls 0% Plain Chobani
Small handful of Spinach
Several cherry tomatoes halved
Tiny pinch of Bacon
Pinch of Parmesan
1/4 cup of cheese

Mix everything together, and bake for 20minutes at 180 Celcius.

Lightened 'Cheesecake' with Berry Coulis

I would add a teaspoon of vanilla or lemon but unfortunately I didnt have them on hand.

1-2 tbls of sugar
1/4 cup Tofutti
1/3 cup Chobani

Small handful of berries
1 tbls sugar

Mix the first three ingredients until smooth. Refrigerate until needed. To make the berry coulis what I did was microwave it for a minute or so until it bubbled and topped the cheesecake with it once cool.

Salted, malted chocolate chip cookies. These turned out a bit dark as I forgot about it for a short period of time. Recipe here

Lightened up Caramel Popcorn

1/4 cup unpopped corn kernels
a brown paper bag

4 tbls honey
2 tbls Peanut butter
A pinch of salt (Don't omit this, it helps cut through the sweetness a bit and adds another dimension of flavour)

Making popcorn in a microwave is dependant on your microwave oven. Mine took 2.5 minutes on high.

Microwave honey, peanut butter and salt until it bubbles. Mix with a spatula until well combined. Fold through popcorn in a large bowl until coated. Refrigerate until slightly hardened. Enjoy.

[Updated] Op-shopping / Thrifting Adventures in Sydney

Accumulated Thrift Haul
As you can see , my thrift haul is a lot more vast than my retail haul and thank goodness for that ! (& significantly more inexpensive as well ) . At first , I had the same attitude as most people in respect to wearing clothes worn by someone else . Disgust . I mean , we have no idea what sort of treatment the previous owner put them in for for them to get donated in the first place . Back then , I was very much a tomboy , I would live in the same clothes day after day (granted , I was in high school then so the need to have new clothes or a unique sense of style wasnt that vital . p.s. In Australia, we wear uniforms in school so really the only time i wore normal clothes was on the weekends & because my parents were strict I hardly went out with friends anyway). It started to change when my mum started using eBay as a medium for purchasing clothes . She would buy branded things over the price of a hundred dollars for under 10 and all of it came brand new with tags , I was mystified. Before too long, I started purchasing my own clothes , slowly , piece by piece , filling up my own bare wardrobe .

I dont know when I started feeling acutely uncomfortable out in public in the clothes that I wore. Maybe it was in part due to my 2nd cousin . She was a year older than me but I always felt intimidated by her even when we were children . As we grew older , she begun to mature , dressing fashionably , wearing copious amounts of makeup ... she begun to very much look like an adult and me ? Well... I still wore the same jeans from when i was 12 and that same long sleeved striped shirt .. I had barely changed , I still very much looked like a kid . I had another shock that jolted my system a few years back . Through the wonders of Facebook , I found my old primary school friends that I had left for another primary school . Physically , I cringed as I sorted through their profile pics and then through their normal pics when I couldnt place them immediately . They had changed . And it wasnt entirely to do with the 7 years since I had last seen them . No ... they had all matured much like my 2nd cousin had , they all had the appearance of the 'clubbing' Asian , dyed hair , smokey eyes augmented with thick eyeliner .. I dont know how to describe what I was feeling then , dejected ? No . I think I felt a bit pathetic , everyone was changing , maturing .. whilst I stayed the same . I think seeing that I made a slightly immediate change for me , I got a side fringe . That was when I realised something .

Despite what people say , they judge you based on your appearance at first glance & that included what you wore . I wanted to become that person that you saw at first glance and feel slightly intimidated , thinking , oh wow she's so elegant . Or , wow , she looks so unique , I want to be just like her . It led me to draw the conclusion that fashion was like an art form and that everyone's bodies as they differ from one another entirely act as one's own unique canvas that only they can harness its true potential . Whether you're a few stories tall , curvy , petite etc . how you showcase your best qualities is up to you and your imagination and the possibilities are endless. This is why I want to trim up and lose weight so badly, everything just appears to look good on you when you're skinny x___X.

That was what started my whole affair with fashion . But I'm more reasonable , afterall , money is not a limitless resource so hence why I used eBay and soon developed a knowledge of brands and a penchant for them .. unfortunately . But I dont go out of my way to purchase the full priced item , rather I experience a thrill when I do win something at a fraction of its original cost . Ahh , dont get me wrong , over the years I have been scammed or made mistakes in regards to sizing but I've become more cautious and wary now . However , I admit , I do have something of an obsessive and perfectionist side, something that I and a colleague at work share LOL . When I want something irrespective of how expensive it can become , I must have it.. within reasonable limits but I WILL stalk something for days until I have it within my clutches LOL . Also, when I want something it's usually for a rare particular detail that it has so no substitute will do. I mean , why settle for anything less than perfection especially since money is involved and despite what some may think , I am not wealthy nor is my family . Therefore, I can only ever have the exact item or if i find an item that is even better .

So that's my intro LOL , now in regards to the thrift haul .    I went to a variety of places , but first I think I should explain where my love of thrifting arose from .

Jennifer Im (Clothes Encounters) at the ♡~Yard Sale~♡
The beautiful Jenn Im of the Youtube channel clothesencounters
This girl right here .  It was actually by accident that I found their channel actually . So there was a girl in my year and she sent the link to another girl saying that she loved these girls (now , I know both of them but we're not close enough to be called friends hahaha ). So naturally I was intrigued and soon I was hooked onto their channel . Back then , as soon as I saw something that I liked , I would automatically search for it on eBay hoping to find an identical one . What I didnt know about these girls was that what they wore centred around thrifting . I kept searching up ' Goodwill' not knowing that it was a large thrift chain LOL . Watching them , my perspective of thrift stores started to alter . I mentioned before how I would buy branded items for a fraction of the cost but I would make sure that the owner had only worn it once or twice before selling it . But that was when I realised I was being ridiculous . Even though they claimed they had only worn it once or twice I had no way of knowing if they had , say , spent an entire day under the sun and started sweating into a shirt . So that's when I thought , heck not , let's give thrifting a try !

Another mini story . So I knew about thrifting when a friend mentioned it . A friend of his had declared that he spent too much on clothes and he took that as a challenge to go thrifting . So I and another friend , decided to challenge him as well since we knew his penchant for brands . Yup, as expected , he took one step inside and ran away screaming ... and then consoled himself by buying a new scarf . yup LOL . From that moment , I had gone once , but like him , I kept being overcome by paranoia that the worn clothes would infect me .. yes, I was extremely irrational .

So after watching clothesencounters, I regained courage to thrift but I still leafed through the clothes somewhat cautiously and then I stumbled upon these ...

Studded Lapel Blazer - Zara ($10) & Navy Blazer - Moschino Cheap & Chic ($15)
I was more reassured when I came into the blazer section since more often than not , coats and the like are worn over other clothing so it's the article of wear that has the least contact with skin . But omgosh . When I came across them , I froze . This was because I wasn't in a wealthy area which all the more , made the finds even more astronomical in worth . But that was what set the gears in motion ,  if I could find things of such expensive brands near my area .. that just opened up a new door of what ifs and I was sold . I was ready to dismiss being able to have gold fall finds at all in any opshop in Australia. From what I've seen on YouTube , the thrift stores in America appear to be so much better and vast that ours . If thrift stores in Australia were the size of grocery stores then the ones in America are equivalent to supermarkets . Plus , they seem to carry more unique , vintage and I suppose more young people friendly .

I kept putting off this post as I continued to thrift after taking these pictures , all the while, adding more clothes to the pile and then I realised how redundant it was of me to continually put it off as unlike with retail shopping there isn't really a limit on thrift shopping due to the extreme difference in cost . So, I decided to just go the hell with it and just upload my more dated purchases without being too concerned of the recent purchases . Plus, I have yet to see a thrift haul from Sydney that involved more I guess ' young-adult' type shopping purchases , so without further ado, let us continue with this haul .

The Haul from the Hill with a fixed Summer .
12 items for $16 which is equivalent to approximately $1.45. So what is this magical place ? Basically its an Anglicare warehouse in Summer Hill (for me , it's actually more convenient for me to walk from Ashfield station as I wouldnt have to change lines) where all the donated clothes are shipped to before they are sorted out then distributed to other places around NSW . The thing with this place is that there is absolutely no discernible order and clothes upon clothes upon clothes are placed in massive containers that are about my height in depth . Advisable that you go with friends so that you can sift through the clothes better . But be warned , you must come with oodles of patience and not be discouraged as real gems DO lie in wait to be discovered. It's utterly worth it as the price is dependant on weight, $8/kg . An extremely good deal as things like tops dont weigh as much but reading other blogs, they have appeared to increased the price as before it used to be $6/kg, but nonetheless , $8/kg is still an incredibly good deal just not as good as the previous one haha . I also found two tracksuit pants in my size which look hardly worn ! A grey one from Nike and a brown from Adidas .

The T-shirts & muscle tees that I got
I got quite a few unique graphic tees as well as some muscle tanks that I was ecstatic to find .. well my friend found them but details . I was about to succumb to buying the ones from Glue for $20 (due to the aforementioned Christmas sales ) or UNIF ones (which hover around $60 in price) so I was immensely glad that I held out and was well rewarded for my patience. Plus, the one in the bottom centre has galaxy-inspired colours , a bonus I didn't expect. The Tokyo top in the top right hand corner is actually from River Island and in a sz8 , it's so immensely rare to find small sizes in thrift stores so I was immensely surprised when my friend unearthed it .

I can't believe that I found these especially in a small size as really , I can't emphasise this enough but thrift stores seem to mainly consist of much larger sizes . Some you could easily pass off as the oversized style but some you can't . Those overalls are a sz6, from the brand Subtitled, which is carried by General Pants & Co. and could be easily worth perhaps $40- 50 ? Perhaps even more . The skirt too is worth an exuberant amount as its from the brand Mink Pink possibly around $40 ? It's a sz 10 but it has an elastic waist allowing it to fit more like a sz 8 . I love the details of the skirt and they have actual pockets ! These two items alone , could easily quadruple the price that I got everything for so I feel incredibly lucky ! Finds like this is what makes sifting through piles of clothing so worth it . And that ends the Summer Hill portion of the haul .

I can't remember the exact location of these places but I believe they're from Fairfield & Liverpool . Liverpool is a miraculous place for thrift stores just in one tiny corner alone , there were like 4 stores! Just look at it , killer Doremon ! Hehehe . I loved the graphics of the other shirt , I seem to gravitate more towards the designs of men's shirts strangely , as I find the women ones at thrift stores are often times just so incredibly tacky or dated , with sequins and the like , overall , making it look extremely juvenile. The one in the centre was originally a t-shirt which I just cut the sleeves of . There was a deal at the time , 4 things for $12 so essentially it was only worth $3 ! I also gave my friend another shirt that I wished I kept but he really liked it so I gave it to him hmphhh . It was from an expensive brand called the T-bar where all their shirts are $40 .. and I only got it for $3 and it looked hardly worn ! I believe the other two shirts were under $6 .. I cant remember the exact price as it's been awhile haha .

Striped Cardigan/Blazer - $8 & Dress - $18
I got these two things from Burwood on separate occasions . This time I went with my best friend and she got scammed by the sales assistant so hard . She just kept buttering her up and she ended up buying a vest for $15 ! I wanted to say something but it would've been rude if I was but urghhh . The poor , innocent naive girl ... It was a nice item and yes, it IS cheaper than an retail store & brand new .. but its expensive for a thrift store . Nonetheless , I doubt we would be returning to that place again . But since there were more than one in the store and it actually looked good , now my friend is overcome with the desire for us to share clothes like clichĂ© characters in a bad Hollywood movie LOL. The striped jacket is more a hybrid between a cardigan and a blazer ; it is immensely soft ! I can't waity for the weather to freeze over so that I can wear it and , and , IT HAS NUMEROUS FUNCTIONING POCKETS ! All for $8 , and it looks hardly worn ! The dress is more from the pricey side and not much justification can be done haha. It's branded though , an expensive Australian brand called Bardot and still had tags attached to it , $119.95 O__O and I got it for $18 ! Not a bad deal but now I demand that someone make a cocktail party that I can attend so I have an excuse to wear it ! Hahaha .

Mimco wallet - $5 , Forever New Satchel - $10, Superman Top - $6 , Assorted Disney printed ties - $1 EA
All this was once again from the Liverpool area which is.. utterly fantastic . I can't believe I found that Mimco wallet for $5 ! It's hardly used AND it even came with its dust bags . Mimco wallets , minimum are worth $140 so this was a massive steal O__O . I was just about to leave when I saw this on the counter behind the sales assistant and I asked to see it , sure that another wallet was to be in the dust bag but when I uncovered it .. omg... Now I dont need to be concerned about upgrading my wallet anymore ! The bag too , was another steal. That bag is estimated to be worth about $60 Since it's from Forever New . But, I've been looking for a pale pink satchel bag for the longest time ! There was this one that I contemplated buying when I was in one of those Korean fashion stores splattered around Sydney , they were 30% off but still costed like $103 O__O . No way would I fork over that amount of money for something that wasnt branded . Moreover , with this bag it has like a reptilian print & its pastel pink! , intricate details that I love . For now I'm satiated hehe , but eventually I will find a more a ps1 looking bag .

I've been looking for a slouchy , comfortable tee for awhile with the superman logo on it , after seeing SNSD's IGAB music video , now I just have to look for a long sleeved raglan batman logo tee ! The ties were more of an impulse buy but they're Disney ! The price tag said they were $3 EA but they were placed in the $1 section so I got them for $1 each ! AND they're authentic Disney ! Also from Liverpool , I got a Me To You bear for only $1 (Not pictured above) ! AND it was still in its box ! AND they were ' lucky ' themed so they were green ! The favourite colour of the friend who had a massive fetish with these years ago ! Coincidence ? I BELIEVE NOT ! Especially since we were meeting up with her later in the day which I immediately gave to her . She was so happy ! Hahaha , she's inadvertently benefitted from my love of thrifting as just recently I gave her a Masterchef cookbook , brand new , FOR ONLY $5 !

Upper two shirts for $5, Forever New bag - $8, Cardigan - $3 , H&M pastel pink polka dotted  skirt $6 , Shirt - $6 , Shoes - $5
This newer haul is from Blacktown . Another incredible place ! Unfortunately , it's so far ! But I guess the finds more than make up for it . The first thrift store we went into is where I found the items on the bottom row sans the shoes . They were having a green tag 50% deal which explains the cheap price of the cadigan . The shirt is so SOFT and comfortable ! My friend found it for me ! The skirt is from H&M with its tags still attached ! $25 ! I got is for $6 .. which was probably what influenced my decision to buy it =/ , the brand haha . The store that I got from the 2nd thrift store had a few specials going on . 2 shirts for $5 and all shoes for $5 ! NOW I WISH I HAD BOUGHT MORE LOL. I was so surprised when I walked up to the counter as each shirt was $6 so when she said $5 I thought she meant each when in actuality it was together . I think I started at her in shock . So it went from $12 --> $5 like what on earth ?! Regarding the shoes ... I typically don't like the Vans style , I truly think they're hideous . I prefer Converse . But these were only $5 and it had a unique print ! Electric blue with pink leopard print ?! It was hardly worn at $5 ! There were other shoes there as well, again only worth $5 which I utterly regret not buying now .. hahaha .. maybe I should go back LOL . They are a sz 8 though , a bit too big as I'm usually a sz 7 so I stuffed in a bit of paper at the toes and it fits just fine LOL. The shoes are incredibly comfortable as well ! Much to my friend's dismay though , I still have not warmed up to Vans hahaha even though I was forced to royally eat my words . The bag was another incredible Forever New find . ONLY $8 ! It would've easily been worth $40 ! AND IT WAS BRAND NEW ! And it's short chain was reminiscent of the Chanel strap there were multiple charms adorning the chain as well ! Including the Eiffel tower , a nice touch . So I'm incredibly ecstatic about my finds ... I can't wait to go back !

And that so concludes my thrift haul ! .. Despite the fact that I have a lot more items that would make this post more lengthier than it actually is but I've put this off for far too long now hahaha . Expect to see more thrift hauls in the future ! Also, could anyone recommend to me places in Sydney ? Please do not name 'vintage' stores as they're so much more pricey than your regular opshop ! Please also tell me abour your experiences and what you got! Thank you .

Snowless Christmas Sale Haul (Wildfox, Glue, Motel & more)

Wow , it has been awhile since I updated huh ? I really have no defence as the last month of summer really flew by as though some sadistic Time Goddess decided to purposefully accelerate it just to have us students wail and cry that they didnt get to accomplish things on their Summer To-Do list .. myself included . Where oh where did it go , I still needed to go to IKEA ! Not to mention obtain that Miranda Kerr body hahaha . In any case , I've decided to showcase the things that I collectively purchased over the Christmas period. Normally I dont buy anything as even on sale , everything is still ridiculously expensive (ahh , my cheapass-edness at its finest LOL) or just not worth the money (cough , well , that mentality hurled itself out the window this year .. curse my working in a shopping centre , you always know when there's a good sale, hmph) . This is going to be a two part series otherwise the post would be even more lengthy. A thrift & a retail haul, just scroll down if you wish to skim through the pictures.

Ironically , I was the one out of my friends that wholeheartedly declared that I wasnt going to take advantage of the sales period , as A) twas not worth it & B) Currently saving my money to go to America at the end of this year =) , oh how that bit me in the ass . I actually bought a lot more clothing items over the summer but it would've made for an extremely lost post so I decided to split it . Besides I'm a lot more excited for the other haul as it consists entirely of opshopped/thrifted items . Yup, I am utterly on the thrifting bandwagon =) and I dont see why that should be scorned , if I can buy things that are less than $5 & it looks friggen awesome , with NO absolute signs of wear,  hell, I'll buy it .

Ash Shoes , RRP : $269 ,  $60

Interesting story as to how this came to be within my possession actually . The store that I bought these in , Jade & Belle , they're not a brand but rather a store that carries many high end Australian designers as well as Wildfox , originally had them selling for half price so around $134.50 . This was during the earlier days of Boxing Day sales and I was initially hesitant to go into the store as from past experience I would have to sell my liver and that wouldnt even buy me one of the skirts ! But then I saw that obnoxiously large 'SALE' sign and I thought .. COULD IT BE ?! This was the first time that I ever saw that they had a sale , but even so , most things were still out of my price range hahaha . Back to the story , since they were half price and they werent cheap but I guess , fairly inexpensive for that brand so I decided to cough up the money . The thing was , they only had a size 10 , so I was able to walk away with most of my money still intact ... for the time being . A few weeks later , I walked into the store and saw that dreaded sign ... $60 for all footwear . I think my jaw dropped to the floor and miraculously , those shoes were right there in the display with only two sizes , the size 10 and .. and ... my size ! Size 7 ! I think I ran for the counter and was so tempted to knock away the lady in front of me because I was about to be late for work ! And now ... in my very scant show collection , they look rather badass and unlike your typical sneaker wedges so they were worth the dare I say it ... splurge .

Pastel  Pink 3D Polka Dotted Jumper - Quirky Circus by Mink Pink  . RRP: $49.95
Okay , not a sale item but a full retail priced one . So around Sydney , there are a lot of stores selling Korean style fashion , extremely feminine and cute , pastel and frilly bows , lace and .. well you get the idea . This reminded me of such a jumper that I would often see around usually retailing for $80+ . Although I like it yes , and technically it is a good deal in contrast to the no branded, extremely thin jumpers .. it still is a lot of money . Originally I tried on a size 10 but thought that it looked wayy too oversized on me and was about to give up on it when I noticed a retail assistant putting the exact same jumper on a mannequin . I think time slowed and I may or may not have done the dramatic movie cliche ' WAIIIITTTTTT , what size is that ?! ' hahaha , just joking , I'm not that desperate to fill up my wardrobe . He informed me that it was a sz 8 and I think I internally gasped . I still reluctantly handed over my bank card though hahaha :X . You should never , ever , ever go shopping with one of my friends if you value your money , she encourages you to buy things , much to the displeasure of my wallet hahaha .

Ashbury Moonshine Jumpers - Wildfox . RRP: $149 . $75 $60 $20 EA
I've always coveted Wildfox jumpers particularly for their quirky (If you read my blogs in months to come you may notice how that trait appeals to me hehehe ) & luxuriously soft design . I should really stop going into Jade & Belle though .. I think by now the retail assistants have become quite familiar with me LOL , especially since I always go in wearing my work uniform . I know .. I should've just stopped at one but , but .. two jumpers at that price was a fraction of the normal retail price .. & a LOT cheaper than what I've seen on eBay as well ... I know , I know , I'm weak and pathetic AHAHAH . Next on the list , that soft serve smiley face jumper =) , these are cropped jumpers so it'll be awhile before I'm comfortable with wearing them out but luckily , the weather hasnt really started to freeze over yet . But knowing the unpredictability of Sydney weather , that time would more often come sooner rather than later .

High Waisted Shorts - Factorie . RRP: $39.95 $9.95 EA
Interestingly, these went on sale approximately a week before the actual Christmas Sales ? Like I said , working in a shopping centre has the added disadvantage of knowing where exactly there is a sale . But what a way to add uniqueness to bottoms ! It's a shame they didnt have the conventional blue acid wash .. I guess thats considered too mainstream for them hahaha .. for a reason though however ! I quite like the cyan striped one in the top left hand corner , it's so retro-inspired ! I was going to get a light pink in that exact style but I had something of an internal struggle but when in doubt blue conquers all ! As evident in the bottom right hand corner with the more subdued shade of blue with floral accents. I've been searching for high waisted shorts for ages that didnt reveal half your bare ass and the fact that all four of them was the price of one PRE crazy day sale ? Absolute ludicracy.

Striped, Starred & Crossed Skinny Jeans - MotelRocks . RRP: $104.99 $30 EA
Yet another crazy sales story that provides a thinly veiled excuse for my ballistic spending . Originally, I had only wanted to purchase the striped skinny jeans as I had seen a blogger / YouTuber wear them and it looked incredible on her ... not that its of indication that in turn it would look fabulous on me (the mannequin paradox , same clothes yet on that cold lifeless , plastic body it seems to look an infinite fold better ) . In any case , I saw them in Glue (yet again not a brand but a store that carries many other popular brands such as UNIF , One Teaspoon , all about eve , etc. ) and pshhh , how dare they utilise the bait and switch method ! They were on display with an assortment of other brand & styles under a sign reading $50 . So I went up to the counter with such jeans only to discover that they were two for $100 , thus essentially making them $50 at the price of spending more . So of course , my cheapness couldnt handle it and I dejectedly placed it back . But then , lo and behold , came the boxing day sales . I was due to start work fairly early so not many people were at the centre at the time . I walked into the store and I think I stood there frozen .. $30 . whattttt ? That was even cheaper than before and this was each . I was going to be sensible but then I thought .. wait . If I buy three it would be even cheaper than if I had bought two in the week prior to this , but then I'd be using more money however in the technical sense I'm still saving money . I'm usually not one to wear patterned bottoms & I prefer skinny jeans over leggings and this is going to sound outrageously difficult but I dislike leggings as they're more skintight , moreover , you're forced to wear longer types of tops otherwise it just looks weird . My friend commented that they look really hipster , pshhh . I bought them in a size smaller than what I'm used to , no , not because I'm vain , but because hmmm , allow me to phrase this in a way that doesnt cause me to sound like a flimsy late night infomercial .

I suggest you go back a few posts so you can see but lately , I've been striving for a body that I can be proud of . As in , I will able to wear the first outfit I pull out and not have to dismiss it because it sits horribly on me then having to be forced to choose out another ten hundred outfits before settling on the standard loose shirts that I've worn a hundred times over . In the midst of a row with my parents , they brandished me this self-help book dwelling entirely on the power of positive thinking . Half the book was actually in Vietnamese , the other , English , which made it an incredibly fast read . The whole book , was slightly reminiscent of ' The Secret ' a DVD I had been forced into watching by my cousin years prior to this event . So I decided to search up the Secret again and I found an entire section devoted completely to ' Losing Weight ' . This piqued my interest . Okay , okay , I'm not saying that if you do nothing but have positive thoughts you will actually achieve results (contrary to the success stories on that site that may or may not be entirely true) , you actually have to modify your diet and exercise accordingly I know that . However , having a positive mindset does not hurt anyone, rather it benefits you . Depression , misery , stress , negative thoughts .. they do a number on the body and often , you are left drained, exhausted and unmotivated . What about when you're happy ? Suddenly skies are brighter and you do feel like your have bundles of more energy . So I dont think positive thinking is detrimental , even if it doesnt work it still benefits your body ! Back to my original point , so one of the 'guidelines' was to believe that you already have that awesome body you're striving to achieve & when you purchase clothes , buy them in a smaller size instead of a larger one where it seems as though you're setting yourself up for failure . Also , as you walk down the street and see someone with like thin legs , killer abs , etc , visualise that you already have them and eventually , through hard work , you will be rewarded with such ! Abandon words like don't , can't or anything with a negative connotation . Negativity acts as an anchor , the more you have , the more it weighs you down . Conversely , positivity acts like a balloon , pulling you upwards with each bit of happiness you have . Much like the house in Up heheheh . I'm not saying that you have to be fricken smiley and happy 24 hours a day , I most certainly am not . But at least indulge your mind with happiness for the sake of your health .

Now let's step aside from all this disgustingly cherry happiness that is most uncharacteristic of me and turn our attention back to the sale . There is no item that I absolutely regret to the point where I would resell my soul ( if i even have one ) for a refund . Due to the fact that I rarely go retail shopping anyway , I mainly buy online or from eBay and now thrifting because I can get everything for the smallest fraction of a price . My friends call me a brand-whore but I'm just like , hey , if I can afford to buy branded things under 25% of the original price I will . The most I've ever spent was $50 on an anorak from Forever New on eBay , one of my more pricier purchases I admit but still a fraction of the original price . And the reasons why I buy more brands is because they tend to be more reliable in terms of quality since they've made a name for themselves in order to slightly justify them selling at that price . In total , this haul cost me about , $230 . Full priced it would've been , $1040 O__O . Holysmokes. That's like a discount of around 77% @___@ . I say I indeed took advantage of the sales LOL . Speaking of which , as I've said repeatedly , I didnt intend on buying anything . However, I did escort my friends to Boxing Day sales in the city or Sydney .We braved the queues often times feeling like salmon swimming upstream , god, don't even get me started on how long the lines were into TopShop . I remember us going into Zara and my friends staring at the price tags in shock and saying , ' is that cheap ?! ' to which I would respond ' It's cheap for Zara ' LOL . Every shop had a queue that would extend for light years long , eventually we got into this expensive store called Oroton , whereby everything was half price . But even half price , it was considerably pricey hahaha . They spent about 10 minutes deliberating over a wallet, clogging up the queues and they didn't even buy it ! So in the end , after a whole day in the chaos of the city what did they end up buying ? A shirt from Cotton On LOLOL . Ahhh . Ironically the people that were meant to take advantage of the sales didn't and the one that shouldn't did LOL .

Woww , okay . That was exhausting . Keep your eyes peeled for part two of my collective haul , THE THRIFT HAUL ! =D

Fashion Inspiration : SNSD's ' I Got A Boy'

Anyone as enamoured as I am about the outfits SNSD sport in their 'I Got A Boy' performances ? This concept is such a refreshing new change for them, in the past we've been hit with a feminine concept with a few elements tweaked, specifically the fresh for INTW, the cute & sweet for Kissing You & Gee and sexy, classy & chic for The Boys , RDR & Genie. For this concept, its a kaleidoscopic streetwear explosion, ensnaring us into this new world of punk with fun statement pieces that presents a bombardment of colours. The entire vid & their following performances are simply a treasure trove of fashion inspiration ... ones that I cant wait to hit up a thrift/opshop since well, I cant afford to purchase a jacket thats worth half the value of my house like they can LOL.

Ive been an avid watcher of their performances, (seriously , each just gets better & better !) and there are a few things that stands out which I am trying very hard not to yearn for since it always ends up with a massive mindless impulsive money thrusting carelessly spree .

What I love is that everything that they wear is just so edgy and eclectic. I guess anything that's unique, mismatched, colourful and quirky is guaranteed to be up my alley and appeal to me . The style in this concept is bold and creative which induces very strong addiction symptoms as I wait for a new live performance to be released because surely, they will be wearing brand new costumes that will inspire my wardrobe. I love how so many bizarre prints & elements can be thrown together yet it can look super stylish ;O . How on earth can they wear anything and make it look god damn amazing ?! When SNSD first came out with this concept there was speculation that they were mimicking 2NE1's style. Whilst they are similar I would say SNSD's style is a lot more feminine as they incorporate things like headscarves, vibrant colours such as yellow, optimistic accessories & designs such as their tattoo leggings, bows, colourful patches that adorn their clothing (ie. smiley faces, among numerous other things) , graphic tees with disney inspirated prints, batman, etc. & hair accessories such as the cat headband, using bandanas as headbands as well as having their hair styled in curls and cute hairstyles like pigtails . Due to this, juxtaposition that is created especially when they mix the more masculine concept such as military inspired clothing with those aforementioned feminine aspects, their stage outfits are always unique and fresh, preventing them from becoming stale and monotonous. It's all in the tiny details that makes an outfit pop and entirely unique!

I love how they took Yoona's camo jacket up a notch by adorning it with patches and badges. Subtle things make all the difference !
I love how Seohyun wears this overall ! I never thought such a childish attire could look so fashionable. It helps that there's, a hanging handkerchief and badges for added interest that creates that fine line between juvenile and fashionable. .

Completely enamoured with how simple and casual Jessica's batman logo jersey top looks , the way her curls are done looks very girly as well. Patches, patches upon patches !
Tiffany's cat ear handband & Seohyun's spiked heandband, I want ! Thankfully I  found some DIY tutorials on YouTube here and here.

That quilted pocket brings a bit more interest to an otherwixe basic black denim

Everything here is just ... *speechless* everything here just melds altogether, most likely due to the fact that they are of the same colour tone.

Not an IGAB performance but I love how girly that cardigan is . I imagine it'll come with a very exuberant price tag but it looks simple enough to o a DIY project on :)

LOL check out those oversized studded buttons ! Such a quirky twist ! Also a gold chain  extending down the length of the arm ? Genius. And if that wasnt enough attention to detail, there are some patches; a smikey face, peace and red lips. On Taeyeon's jersey there is a portuding tree spike detail on the shoulder and dangling longer spikes. Details, Details, Details !

Hyoyeon's leggings ! Gold chains wrapped multiple times around her wrists .. who says you cant ornament your arms when wearing long sleeves ?!

Omggg . I want Seohyun's bow sleeved jacket ! It looks DIY-able hahha >< .. I hope. Tiffany's off shoulder mickey mouse top is totally cute as well.

These outfits are just love .

Ahh, so many times when I watch their performances I wish i could just reach through the screen and grab whatever they're wearing D: . I hope you enjoyed this post. So did you happen to enjoy SNSD's newest concept ? And if you did leave a comment below stating what you loved most whether it be what they wore , the dance etc. I've always loved what SNSD wore, particularly their airport fashion .. if you like these kinds of posts maybe I'll do another analytical review in the future ? Sighh , I wish the opshops in Sydney are like the thrift stores in America ... from the hauls that I've seen on Youtube, they're so much cheaper & there are more unusual gems over there ! Sighh , I guess I can only work with what I have haha >< .
